Bilateral adrenalectomy usually results in lifelong primary adrenal insufficiency. Evidence exists that up to 34% of patients with Cushing’s disease (CD) have some degree of endogenous cortisol secretion after bilateral adrenalectomy due to ACTH driven hyperplasia of residual cortical tissue.
